Safe and Sound in School

Shifts and surprises happen with the Safe and Sound Protocol. Within the space of a term we have seen:

  • students with an ADHD profile become more regulated and attentive for longer periods of time;
  • pupils with sensitivities that inhibit their communication confidence (selective or situational mutism) begin to speak in school;
  • reduced reactivity in children/YP who have a history of struggling with adult or peer relationships;
  • increased social confidence in young people with social anxiety;
  • children and young people struggling to attend school with ‘EBSA’

The protocol is a listening intervention of 20 to 40 minutes per week with a pupil that can easily be incorporated into a quiet time, nurture time, sensory play or PE.

Anna (Situational Mutism) has been observed running on the playground (never
seen this before!). She has been shouting…yes, shouting!!!…to LSA on the
playground. Anna seems more independent but is happy to approach any adult on
the play ground. She’s been engaging others in play. It’s magical 😊

School staff are coached to deliver the sessions on flexible basis while I work alongside parents to support the process from Home and Family.

SSP in School offers exceptional value compared to other individualised interventions in supporting children to regulate better and engage more effectively in learning.

When schools choose to use The Safe and Sound Protocol in school with me as their provider we see some remarkable changes. Read a recent case study here.
